A 40-Day Journey with St. Paul

February 28, 2009

To Live is Christ: A 40-Day Journey with St. Paul, complied by Peter Celano (a writer/editor from Paraclete Press who published this book) is brand new. It is now in stock at our Pauline Book & Media Centers (for SoCal addresses check the About section)

I love the cover, the format, the paper, everything. There is a very accessible introduction or outline of Paul’s life created by using the Scriptures that speak of Paul. The sources for the daily reflections range from the Fathers of the Church to Benedict XVI and I saw some Julian of Norwich in there as well.

What a wonderful companion for Lent during this year dedicated to St. Paul! I just had to have one. In these days, when funds are low and the debts are high, St. Paul is a terrific companion on the journey. Like Lent, Paul’s words strengthen us for the rest of the year.

paul-bookFacing the Apostle
Paul’s Image in Art

By Armanda Santos, FSP

Discover Saint Paul, the bold and passionate preacher of the Gospel, through his many different portrayals in art. Facing the Apostle features thirteen images of Saint Paul, ranging from celebrated masterpieces to the works of little-known contemporary artists. Sr. Armanda reflects on each piece of art, drawing from them meditations on aspects of Paul’s life and message. Facing the Apostle will help you see Saint Paul in whole new way.

In this handsome and well-planned volume, Sister Armanda invites the reader to rediscover and meditate upon the iconography of St. Paul…
Starting with a quotation from Sacred Scripture, she weaves biography, formal analysis, aesthetics, theology, history, and legend together in her chapters. Then each study is completed with a prayer that raises this wealth of information up to the spiritual plane. This is essential. For what good is Christian art if it does not draw us closer to God?
—From the foreword by Michael Morris, OP, Professor of Religion and the Arts, Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology, Berkeley, California

What Are People Saying about this Title?

— Ronald D. Witherup, S.S., Superior General of the Society of St. Sulpice, Professor of Sacred Scripture, and author of Saint Paul: Called to Conversion

“….This book shows in a fascinating way the real and everlasting connection between art and spirituality.”
