CATHOLIC LIBRARY ASSOCIATION  (Hyatt Regency Orange County)

Looking at Dark Materials through the Light

Leaders in the faith community are frequently challenged to critique and judge all kinds of media because we live in a mediated world. We are asked to make informed, pastoral judgments about media that the faithful then challenge. What’s a librarian or teacher to do when the only constant thing about any media is that they are inconsistent — or are perceived to be? This presentation will consider guidelines and criteria for navigating the media products of our culture in ways that are consistent with principles of Catholic education and pastoral practice. A handout will be provided and clips will be integrated into the seminar.

Sr. Tracy just joined our community in Culver City from Miami just on time for her birthday!

Her birthday was last Thursday but we postponed the fiesta until last night due to our involvement as exhibitors (publishers) at the LA Religious Education Congress in Anaheim.

More about Sister Tracy soon! She is the new vocation director for our community in SoCal and will be planning some events for young women discerning a vocation to the Pauline religious life.

A 40-Day Journey with St. Paul

February 28, 2009

to-live-is-christ

To Live is Christ: A 40-Day Journey with St. Paul, complied by Peter Celano (a writer/editor from Paraclete Press who published this book) is brand new. It is now in stock at our Pauline Book & Media Centers (for SoCal addresses check the About section)

I love the cover, the format, the paper, everything. There is a very accessible introduction or outline of Paul’s life created by using the Scriptures that speak of Paul. The sources for the daily reflections range from the Fathers of the Church to Benedict XVI and I saw some Julian of Norwich in there as well.

What a wonderful companion for Lent during this year dedicated to St. Paul! I just had to have one. In these days, when funds are low and the debts are high, St. Paul is a terrific companion on the journey. Like Lent, Paul’s words strengthen us for the rest of the year.
